ADVOCACY

Advocating for Change: Empowering Midwives and Mothers

Our advocacy initiatives encompass a wide range of efforts, including crafting legal proposals aimed at transforming the landscape of midwifery and maternal healthcare. We firmly believe in the power of legislation to enhance the rights and autonomy of women during childbirth.

01

Setting Standards: Revolutionizing Midwifery Education

02

Advocacy in Action: Proposing Legislative Change in Quintana Roo's Health Law

One of our most significant achievements has been our collaboration in the development of federal guidelines for midwifery schools. These guidelines not only define what midwives should learn but also set the standards for midwifery education, ensuring that every midwife is equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide exceptional care.

03

Preserving freedom: advocacy for the regulation of homebirth and freestanding birth centers

One of our greatest successes has been to obtain a permit from health authorities for the establishment of a birth center. We want to demonstrate that hospital births are not the only safe and legally permitted way to give birth. The legal recognition of home births and freestanding birth centers is an essential way to preserve the principles of reproductive justice and bodily autonomy.

One of our most recent and impactful initiatives involves a proposed legal modification to the state's health law in Quintana Roo. Our goal is to enhance the rights and healthcare choices available to mothers by advocating for changes that empower women and prioritize their autonomy during pregnancy and childbirth. This legislative effort is a testament to our dedication to providing a supportive environment for both midwives and mothers, ensuring that their voices are heard and their rights are respected

Certification of competencies: autonomous regulation of teaching and practice of midwifery

Fundación Osa Mayor is an examination entity accredited by a certifying body to examine the competencies of people who are dedicated to midwifery. In terms of incidence, it is a very important achievement for us that other midwives are joining this movement for the autonomy of the profession. Through certification, we can demonstrate to society that as midwives we have the essential competencies that guarantee care based on the principles of autonomy, commitment, inclusion, quality and love.

our impact with the midwifery network

Our Network of Certified Midwives forms the heart of our mission, expanding internationally to promote autonomy and create safe spaces for women throughout their pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum journeys. These dedicated midwives are advocates for respectful and empowering maternal care, not only within local communities but also as influential voices in shaping national policies related to midwifery. Together, they champion the cause of maternal well-being and choice.

Your support directly contributes to providing these dedicated professionals with essential resources, training, and tools, enabling them to continue offering high-quality maternal care to underserved communities. By sponsoring a midwife, you're not only empowering her but also helping countless women and families access the care they deserve, ensuring a safer and more respectful childbirth experience. Join us in making a difference today.
